the history
of the
selga-309

The Selga-309 model was developed at the Latvian Radiotehnika Factory. The 1980s were a "golden age"
for Radiotehnika, with the factory producing roughly
35% of all Soviet audio equipment.

Selga-309: Simplicity
and Reliability in
Mass Production

The Radiotehnika production association designed several portable radio models, including the Selga-311 (in 1983),
and the Selga-310, Selga-312, Selga-320, and Selga-410
(in 1984). However, only a few of these went into
production.  The Selga-410, later known as the
Selga-309, and the Selga-320, released as the
R-8320, made it to mass production in 1985.
The Selga-309 was built on a "no frills" philosophy.
It featured a sleek, modern design with an ergonomic body made from durable, impact-resistant polystyrene. With just
a few controls for tuning and volume, it was intuitive
for anyone to use. Its simple, reliable circuitry guaranteed
it would last for a long time.
